Board index Prayer

Prayer is one of the main reasons people walk away from God in disgust and frustration. What is prayer? How does it work? Why do we pray?

What's the point in saying grace?

Just curious cause my family only does it on special occasions but some people pray over their food before they eat.

There are at least two reasons to say grace before meals. First it's an acknowledgement that all gifts to us come from God. Plants grow because God has created the earth to function in this way, and the "fruit of the field," so to speak, is ultimately a gift from Him. Eating a meal is so much more than consuming food; it is a chance to recognize the many ways our Father nourishes us, says Tish Warren.

Secondly, it's a simple way to remember at least three times a day to turn our thoughts in praise and gratitude to God for His goodness and provision. Ideally our mind should always be couched in the presence of God, but prayer before meals reminds us of God's presence and work in our lives and in the world.
