Why do Christians give me a hard time about childlessness?

Postby Need to Lick » Thu Mar 08, 2018 4:53 pm

Whenever I say I won't have kids, I get a load of it from Christians. It's not like I'm going to convert them to Christianity, period, so why does it seem to matter so much?

Hmm. Doesn't make sense to me. There are plenty of women in the Bible are not said ever to have children: Dinah, Miriam and Deborah, among others. They are not condemned for their childlessness—nor, for that matter, are the five famous barren women of the Bible—Sarah, Rebekah, Rachael, Hannah, and Samson’s mother—who later all conceive. Jesus didn't have children. You obviously don't need to have children to be fully human. Nor is marriage in the Bible just for child-bearing. Paul even taught that in some cases it's better to stay single. In 1 Corinthians 7, being single isn't an act of disobedience, but could actually be a gift from God (1 Cor. 7.8). Therefore, even if one is married and childless, this is not a problem according to the Bible.
